On 7th May 2025, GCSE PE and Drama students from our school attended a performance of Dear England at the National Theatre.

This critically acclaimed production, written by James Graham, explores the emotional and psychological journey of the England men’s football team, highlighting themes of identity, pressure, leadership, and resilience.

Students found the narrative both powerful and relatable, engaging deeply with the play’s portrayal of performance under pressure—whether on the football pitch or the stage. The experience offered valuable cross-curricular enrichment: Drama students were able to analyse professional performance techniques, character development, and ensemble work. It also allowed them to observe how contemporary themes can be brought to life on stage in innovative ways, while PE students gained insight into the mental and emotional demands of elite sport. It offered a unique perspective on motivation, mental health, and the importance of mindset in performance—core elements of the GCSE PE curriculum.

The visit sparked thoughtful reflection and discussion, enhancing students’ understanding of the broader themes they study in class. It was an inspiring and memorable experience that demonstrated the value of live performance in supporting both creative and academic growth.
