Foodbank Collection and Distribution Visit 8th December 2023

During form time this week, we have been focussing on two United Nations Development goals to improve the world. Promoting Peace and to End Poverty in all its forms everywhere.

As part of this weekly focus a collection was taken of food and vital sanitary products in order to donate to the Collier Row and Romford Foodbank.

At the end of the week, seven yr8 pupils accompanied by Miss Baker and Mr Lucas, not only dropped off the Gaynes School’s collection to the food bank but offered their help to sort and distribute the food also.

On arrival at the food bank, a shipping container that was full of donated goods from the local Tesco’s and Asda store required emptying into the church hall to be weighed, catagorised and sorted.

Our pupils pulled up the sleeves of their Christmas jumpers and got right to work, moving the pallets, weighing them and sorting.

It was a very eye-opening experience. Foodbanks have become such a vital part of our community. The volunteers at the foodbank work so hard to get everything ready and were extremely grateful for our additional help from our pupils as they sorted items, ready for collection by the those in need later on that afternoon.#
