Black History Month Cultural Event - Barber Shop Chronicles

Back
October 13th 2022

As part of our celebration of Black History Month, students in years ten and eleven were invited to watch a screening of the National Theatre's production of Barber Shop Chronicles, a new play by Inua Ellams.

One day. Six cities. A thousand stories.
Newsroom, political platform, local hot spot, confession box, preacher-pulpit and football stadium. For generations, African men have gathered in barber shop to discuss the world. These are places where the banter can be barbed and the truth is always telling.
Barber Shop Chronicles is a heart-warming, hilarious and insightful new play that leaps from a barber shop in Peckham to others in Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos and Accra.  It explores that it means to be a man of African heritage in the modern world, the importance of language, culture and history.

All students at Gaynes School can access the National Theatre's school collection online, both in school and at home.
