BackInspiring the Next Generation Through Basketball – Stan from the London Lions
We were delighted to welcome Stan from the London Lions to deliver an engaging and inspiring basketball experience for our students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
The session began with our Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE students, who had the opportunity to learn more about basketball as a sport, the professional game, and the aspirations and dedication required to reach an elite level. Stan provided valuable insight into the world of professional basketball, helping students understand the importance of commitment, discipline, teamwork, resilience and a positive mindset when pursuing their goals.
The workshop also offered students a wider perspective on the opportunities available through basketball, both on and off the court. It was a fantastic opportunity to raise aspirations, broaden their understanding of the sport and encourage them to consider how the skills and values developed through basketball can support their personal development and future ambitions.
Following this, our Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in a practical basketball workshop, where they had the opportunity to get active, develop their fundamental skills and experience the excitement of the game first-hand. Through practical activities, students were encouraged to build confidence, improve their coordination, work collaboratively and enjoy learning a new or familiar sport.
Both sessions provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with basketball in different ways, from understanding the pathway to elite-level performance to developing practical skills and discovering the enjoyment of participation.
A huge thank you to Stan and the London Lions for delivering such an engaging and motivational experience for our students. Opportunities like these help inspire young people, raise aspirations and demonstrate how sport can develop confidence, character and a lifelong passion for physical activity.
