November 26th 2025

Our Year 10 and Year 11 Drama students had an exciting opportunity to visit the National Theatre for a full backstage tour. They explored one of the country’s most prestigious performance venues and gained a deeper understanding of the professional world of theatre.

Students visited multiple production spaces including prop workshops, costume departments, and the technical areas above and below the stage. They learned how set designs are constructed, how lighting and sound are programmed, and how large-scale productions are managed from concept to performance.

The tour also included time inside one of the National Theatre’s performance spaces, where students were able to see the scale, design, and technical capability of a professional stage in action.

Overall, the experience gave them an invaluable insight into the behind-the-scenes processes that bring live theatre to life, supporting their GCSE Drama course and strengthening their understanding of production roles and theatre design.
